Wholesale SMS review
Wholesale SMS has been absorbed into the Sinch MessageMedia family, and it no longer trades as a product you can buy. Its customers now sit with Sinch Engage, while existing Wholesale SMS customers keep a separate legacy login for their old accounts. Wholesale SMS publishes no rate, score or sign-up today, so you compare the providers that still trade.

Where Wholesale SMS stands
Wholesale SMS no longer operates as a standalone product. Its own site now reads "Wholesale SMS is now Sinch MessageMedia", pointing new signups to Sinch MessageMedia and keeping only a legacy login for existing customers. Its proprietary WholesaleSMS API was deprecated with an end-of-life date of 30 September 2025, migrating customers to the Sinch MessageMedia REST API, a different, separately maintained API. Rates, sender types and support hours are not published for a product no longer sold under this name.
Wholesale SMS publishes no founded, carrier routes, uptime, support or public reviews.
How Wholesale SMS prices
Wholesale SMS publishes no Australian per-message rate keyed to monthly volume, so this review prints none (why we never estimate one).
What happened to Wholesale SMS
Wholesale SMS was a small, independent Australian SMS reseller with its own network. It has been absorbed into the Sinch MessageMedia family. The wholesalesms.com.au page is still live and reads "Wholesale SMS is now Sinch MessageMedia".
New signups are routed to Sinch MessageMedia's own hub. This matters for anyone collecting quotes, because a signup under the old name is not a second, independent quote.
Existing customers keep a separate legacy login at app.wholesalesms.com.au. That login is the only part of the old product a current customer can still reach.
The proprietary WholesaleSMS API reached end-of-life, and customers were required to migrate to the Sinch MessageMedia REST API. That is a different, separately maintained API, so any business with the old API wired into its systems had to do real migration work.
Sinch MessageMedia in turn became Sinch Engage. The brand a Wholesale SMS customer deals with today carries a new name again, which raises the question of where those customers actually went.
Where Wholesale SMS customers went
The successor is Sinch Engage, formerly MessageMedia, then Sinch MessageMedia, and before that Message4U. This site reviews it separately, and its verdict is blunt: there is no Australian dollar rate card since the rebrand. Wholesale SMS was one of three retired Australian brands that ended up at the same successor, alongside directSMS and SMS Central.
The Australian pricing page was retired, so an Australian buyer can no longer read an Australian dollar rate card. The redirect from the old address now lands on an Australian landing page rather than a generic homepage, and the Australian legal pages still load under a rebranding banner. The replacement pricing page sells monthly message bundles, with an unlabelled dollar sign and signup links that carry a US country code.
The platform, the Melbourne team and existing contract terms are stated as unchanged. Every plan includes a free Australian virtual mobile number. The service runs on Sinch's own global network rather than a third-party aggregator, and it holds a SOC 2 certification.
Support is a clear point of difference. Every plan gets chat and support tickets at all hours, every day. A Melbourne phone line runs on weekdays during Australian eastern standard business hours.
A former Wholesale SMS customer should check a few things before moving. Ask for written Australian dollar pricing first, because the public page does not give it. Confirm the terms of the old contract carry over, since that is stated rather than guaranteed on paper. Check whether the free Australian virtual mobile number suits the sender identity you want.
What Wholesale SMS publishes today
The old site shows a notice, not a product. The live page reads "Wholesale SMS is now Sinch MessageMedia" and points new signups elsewhere. Existing customers get their legacy login and nothing more.
Under the Wholesale SMS name, no rate is published. No sender type is published. No support hours are published. The site's verdict records the API withdrawal as the defining weakness of the brand, and that is now the whole story of what it sells.
The page also publishes nothing either way about features such as email to SMS, two-way SMS, MMS to Australian mobiles, dedicated numbers or alphanumeric sender IDs. A buyer cannot confirm or rule out any of these under the old name. That silence leaves a former customer with nothing to compare on the old site itself.
Choosing a provider instead of Wholesale SMS
A former Wholesale SMS customer should compare rate, sender types, support hours and API continuity across the providers that still trade. The old brand gives you none of that, so the comparison has to happen on live products. Written pricing in Australian dollars, a named sender option and reachable support are the three checks worth doing before any commitment.
This site's rate table ranks the providers that publish a rate. Sinch Engage sits in that table without an Australian dollar rate card since its rebrand, so read its review before you treat it as your replacement. The table is the practical starting point a retired brand cannot offer.
