eNudge review

eNudge is a Melbourne email, SMS and survey marketing platform from eNudge Pty Ltd, and eNudge says its data is held on Australian servers. Its flat Starter rate is 16.00c per SMS at one thousand messages a month ($160) and 16.00c at fifteen thousand ($2,400), excluding GST, with a Pro volume rate and custom Enterprise pricing above that. Every message carries a compulsory opt-out line, so one credit holds fewer characters than a standard SMS, and there is no published SMS-sending API.

Where eNudge stands

eNudge is an email, SMS and survey marketing platform built in Melbourne and run by eNudge Pty Ltd since 2006. Starter SMS costs 16c per SMS and Pro costs 14c per SMS, though the homepage calculator prices Starter SMS at 14c. Every message carries a mandatory opt-out, so one credit covers 136 characters, not 160. The main trade-off: you get an all-round marketing platform with Australian-hosted data, but a narrower SMS feature set and no published SMS-sending API.

What eNudge is

eNudge is an email, SMS and survey marketing platform built in Melbourne. Bulk SMS is one product in a suite that also includes email, surveys and automation. eNudge Pty Ltd (ABN 60 120 583 093) has run it since 2006, founded by Heather Maloney, from Level 14, 333 Collins Street, Melbourne. eNudge says it is 100% Australian made and owned, with data held on Australian servers. It is an Australian Made licensee.

How eNudge pricing works

The bulk SMS page lists Starter at 16.00c per SMS and Pro at 14c per SMS, described as a volume rate, with Enterprise at a custom rate. The homepage Starter calculator prices SMS at 14c, so the two pages disagree on the Starter rate. The bulk SMS page publishes no fee, minimum or eligibility for the Pro rate. This site carries the Starter rate, 16.00c, at every volume it compares, because the bulk SMS page publishes no volume bands, so 1,000 messages a month cost $160 and 15,000 cost $2,400.

There is no lock-in contract and no monthly fee to hold an account. Credits come as a monthly subscription, in which credits expire a month from purchase, or pay as you go, in which credits expire 18 months from purchase. Contacts are unlimited on every plan. The free trial gives 250 emails, 10 SMS and 10 survey responses without a credit card.

Why an eNudge SMS holds 136 characters

One SMS credit covers 136 characters, not 160. Every message carries a "Reply REM to stop" opt-out that cannot be removed. A message of 137 to 272 characters uses 2 credits. That mandatory footer shortens every message you send and pushes longer messages into a second credit sooner than a provider that uses the full 160 characters per credit.

Sending and replies

eNudge sends only from an Australian mobile number, either your own or a random one, or from a rented short code. It does not use alphanumeric sender IDs. A dedicated number can be rented for an additional monthly fee whose amount is not published. Replies are free and two-way, delivered to an email inbox and stored against the contact. New Zealand sending uses short codes and is for Enterprise accounts only.

Scheduling supports a send time or a delivery window. You can build date-triggered message series that mix SMS and email. Imports come by CSV upload with custom fields, from Gmail, Outlook and Pipedrive, or through Zapier.

What eNudge does not publish

eNudge does not publish an SMS-sending API. Its only published API adds contacts. It also does not publish email to SMS, MMS, SMPP, RCS, the dedicated number fee, volume price breaks, the Enterprise rate, an uptime SLA or a named carrier. eNudge says it is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 "aligned", not certified, and that its data centre is IRAP assessed and ISO 27001 certified.

Who eNudge suits

eNudge suits an Australian business that wants email, SMS and surveys in one platform, with local support and data on Australian servers. Support runs by phone, email and chat from Melbourne. Starter accounts get chat and email, and Pro and Enterprise add phone. A business that needs alphanumeric sender IDs, MMS or a documented SMS-sending API should look elsewhere.

eNudge questions

How much does eNudge cost?

Starter SMS costs 16.00c per SMS on the bulk SMS page, though the homepage Starter calculator prices it at 14c. Pro costs 14c per SMS as a volume rate, and Enterprise is a custom rate. There is no monthly fee to hold an account and no lock-in contract. Credits expire a month from purchase on subscription, or 18 months pay as you go.

Does eNudge use the full 160 characters per SMS?

No. One credit covers 136 characters because every message carries a "Reply REM to stop" opt-out that cannot be removed. A message of 137 to 272 characters uses 2 credits. Plan your message length around the shorter limit, since the footer is always present.

Can I send SMS from my business name?

No. eNudge does not use alphanumeric sender IDs. It sends only from an Australian mobile number, either your own or a random one, or from a rented short code. You can rent a dedicated number for an additional monthly fee whose amount eNudge does not publish.

Does eNudge have an SMS API?

eNudge does not publish an SMS-sending API. Its only published API adds contacts. It also does not publish email to SMS, MMS, SMPP or RCS. A business that needs to send SMS from its own software should confirm with eNudge what is possible before buying credits.
